SARAH’S BACKGROUND

Before attending the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, I knew very little about the field of journalism or broadcast. As I learned more about my major and I gained hands on experience doing work such as reporting and producing through SU’s student-run TV station, CitrusTV, or working as a digital media reporter for the Athletic Department, I discovered my “why.”

After graduation in 2015, I landed in Abilene, TX (market 168 at the time) working for the local ABC affiliate, KTXS. Our coverage included high school and college sports in West Texas as well as occasionally covering games in Dallas, like Cowboys and Texas Rangers.

After one year I moved to Austin, TX to work at CBS Austin doing very similar work. The most exciting addition to my resume included covering sports at the University of Texas. I was a week day reporter and weekend anchor in an exciting and fast-paced city. It was hard work but very rewarding.

My career took a big step in 2017 when I was hired by Fox Sports Southwest to be a sideline reporter for high school football and the Dallas Stars. That eventually led to doing sideline reporting and pregame/postgame shows for the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans. At the Regional Network level I gained experience with long-form storytelling, live broadcasts, sit down interviews, and producing content for various forms of media.

After 2021, my work expanded into other regions in the country adding work with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Coyotes, the Kansas City Royals, and the Dallas Cowboys.

However, as I continue to do freelance work in sports broadcast, I wanted to do more to give back to the sports community that gave me so much in my career. My “why” in college stemmed from the passion of learning about people and their stories. Today, my “why” has evolved into sharing those stories to make an impact in others. Sideline Media Strategies is an extension of my passion for people with a mission to help young athletes find and define their purpose. We all have one, and it starts with a story.
